Summer towing
Welcome to a course in wet towing in lovely Hälsingland. In less than three hours you can get from Stockholm by car. There is also a bus (Härjedalingen) to Stråtjära and trains to Holmsveden. If you come by bus or train, you will be picked up by car to get to “Boatorpet”, Skogs-Bodarne 431, Stråtjära, the place of Sommartovning.
Here you will learn the basics of wet curing or, if you have previously dabbed, refresh and renew your knowledge. We work on creating durable qualities, explain how to calculate the shrinkage factor, i.e. how large the outlay should be for your item/garment to be the right size, and spend time developing your own shape and color language.
We who organize the course are Carina Haglund and Catrin Bäckman. We both have solid educational training and experience. We have both trained in felting at Friends of Handicraft, in addition to numerous other courses and workshops we have attended to update us on new techniques, materials and approaches when it comes to felting.
Carina works every day as a blanket maker with a specialty of rugs and Catrin runs the shop Fingerborg on Söder in Stockholm.
What is included
During the mornings we work on the basics of wet curing with loose fibres, make overlays, sample patches, calculate shrinkage factor, tovate flat and hollow shapes, work with different grades of wool and try on nunotoving.
You will be given the opportunity to develop your own idiom in the different exercises.
In the afternoons, you work on the basis of the morning exercises with your own projects under supervision.
NOTE! The course is held outdoors in a big tent and we will mostly stand up and work.
The course fee includes about 30 hours of instruction with us two course leaders present at all times. Lunch, dinner, coffee and a study visit with a guided tour at the Filtmakeriet in Kilafors are also included. You also have access to your workstation during the evening hours to work on your own projects.
Material costs are added and materials are available for purchase on site. A list of materials and other items that may be useful to have will be sent out well in advance of the course.
Accommodation is not included in the course fee. In the courtyard there are four beds distributed among two sleeping cabins. It is also possible to set up a camper/caravan. In Stråtjära (the nearest community) there is “Stall Stråtjära” which is a hostel standard accommodation. Registration is open until 26 June and until then you can cancel your place and get the full amount back. If the course is cancelled, the full fee will be refunded.
